Washitape Wednesday

It's that time again! The day where I do a project using washitape. I stayed up late last night, just to make this card for today. Don't forget to share your washitape projects with Tiffany at Crafting a Fairytale.

As some of you know, I held a giveaway on my instagram over the last couple of weeks. Those of you who know me, know I never do anything creative halfway and I love making people smile, and I love surprising people. So, along with the stamp sets going to each of the winners, I'm going to send them a congratulations card. I'll be sharing the four cards over the next four Wednesdays! Here's the first one.

This card was inspired by one I saw on Pinterest, and it was a good excuse to use up some of my buttons. The grid underneath the button was made using washitape as well.

I sort of went for a nautical theme with this one. Or maybe I just love anchors and I always see them with navy and or red.

I love this congratulations stamp. But of course I'm not perfect so some of my edge inking is smudged.

Here's a side view of the card. I love that the black paper makes the colours pop. I also love that I finally made something without a white base.

I can't wait to host another giveaway!

Have a great Wednesday everyone!

Congratulations

Good morning loves! Sorry this is a little late, I had to run into work this morning, and didn't get a chance to post this last night. The blog got a facelift yesterday! I couldn't be happier with how it looks, unless maybe I had a custom blog template. One day I might! But until then I love the one I have now.

A good friend of mine and Jon's recently became a part of a large Youtube channel, and since we're going to visit her and her family next week, I thought that we should take her a congrats card. She worked really hard on this, and the way she explains Warhammer stuff, I actually find it interesting. We're both really happy for her, and so I grabbed all my paper supplies and started making a card.

I made this card using some scrap pieces I had laying around. I used my 1" Martha Stewart Scalloped Circle punch to punch out all the circles. I also used my Martha Stewart congratulations stamp and border.

I adhered the congratulations with foam squares, over top of the string I ran around the card. I trimmed close to the stamp border because I loved the shape.

The circles were glued flat onto the cardstock. I tried to evenly space them for a cleaner look.

Once I finished the card, I realized that it was a beautiful piece of work. It just wasn't nerdy enough for her. Now I'm working on another card, which will hopefully fit her personality a lot better than this one would. The great thing is that I can still use this card for something else though!

Have a great day everyone!

A Note of Thanks

Today I have another thank you card. I always seem to need a thank you card and never have one on hand, and by the time I do make one, it's too late to send it out anyway. So for the next few card posts, it'll probably be thank you cards in some form or another.

I wanted to make this card bright and fun. I first chose the paper at the top and found colours to match it. I wanted to make sure that none of the patterns were repeated or too similar, so I chose from a variety of paperstacks.

I cut the bottom strip an inch shorter than all the rest so I could fit my sentiment on the bottom. You could trim all your strips to be the same length, or turn your card to sit horizontally and have a longer sentiment across the bottom.

I used crochet cotton instead of twine. All my twine limited me to one colour and white. I wanted it to be neutral so I used a simple white and tied it in a bow. If I'd had wider white ribbon, I might have used that instead, but I like that this ties it all together.

Of course we can't forget the side view. Everything on this card is attached to the card. Nothing sticks off except the string. I love how simple it was to make. It opens from the top and measures 3 3/4" x 5 1/2".

Just a note that starting Monday, the blog will have a new URL. I've changed everything, including my Facebook page to Alexandriarose Creations instead of Creations by COAL. The new blog URL will be alexandriarosecreations.blogspot.com My Instagram name has also changed for those of you who follow me there. It's now alexandriarosee_

Have a wonderful weekend!

Hello Darling - Project Life Inspired

Good morning darlings! I hope you all had a wonderful Wednesday!

First off, I made a few cards (like 4 or 5) and there was a giant mess afterwards. Today, instead of cleaning up my mess I simply made it worse. Now tomorrow I'll have to clean it all up.

Today's card is inspired by the Midnight Edition of Project Life. I was opening up my kits today, and flipping through all the cards. I'm so in love with the variety, and I can't wait to mix and match them throughout my album. I've decided that I'm going to start documenting things with Project Life starting in January. I have a lot of changes happening in my personal life towards the end of this year and  the beginning of next.

The Midnight Edition is black, yellow and grey. I rounded the corners to look like a Project Life card (only larger), and added ribbon to bring in more yellow. The gems were an after thought.

Here's a slight side view of the card. The "Hello Darling" is raised above the ribbon with foam squares, and the ribbon wraps around slightly inside.

I originally wanted it just to say hello, then I remembered I had this stamp, and it really tied the whole card together. I rounded opposite corners for a unique shape, and inked the edges with orange and yellow.

This card was so simple, and I love it so much! I love the yellow and black colour combo. It's bright and happy without being too in your face cheerful.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Thursday! See you all tomorrow, for one last post before the weekend! Maybe I'll do something a little more exciting! We'll see how much time I have after work!

Yellow & Grey Thank You

After sitting in my craft room for a couple of hours trying to figure out what I was going to make, then finally deciding that I would simply do a card while I tried to figure out a way to organize the blog and what I would post every day.

At first, I assumed it would be a birthday card, but because I've made so many of those recently, I decided upon making it a thank you card. The great thing about my cards is that until I put a sentiment on it, most of them could be anything they wanted.

I decided that I wanted it to be bright and fun and I found this card on Pinterest that used polka dots on the top and stripes on the bottom, then had a series of flowers across the middle. I made my version of that here. I decided that instead of using a bunch of flowers, I would use one paper flower made using white cardstock and washitape in colours to match the card. The grey border between the two was made with grey washitape on a strip of white paper. And the thank you for your thoughtfulness sentiment has the left and right edge inked with yellow ink to match the stripes it sits on.

Have a wonderful weekend. See you all on Monday!

Baby Girl & Boy Congratulations

Today I made some baby cards. I made four purple & pink and four green & blue.

This is the first time I've ever used washitape on a card, and I'm so happy with how it looks. Once I put the twine across the middle, I felt the card was too plain. I slid it up and put washitape under it and I think it made it tons better than before!

The stamps along the bottom are all part of a set. I thought at first that the black would be too dark for these cards, but I think it was just enough to balance out the pastel colours.

Here we have the green one. The thing I like most about this card (minus the smudges of ink) is that if I changed the "congratulations" sentiment at the top to "you're invited" or "our baby is here", I could easily turn this congrats card into an invitation or a birth announcement!

I originally made this one first, and put the lime green washitape on it. I felt that it made it better. Now I think I should have gone with something to match the card base, like I did with the pink ones. But I still like this one as it is.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Happy Birthday

For whatever reason, when it comes to making cards lately, I get stuck. But I recently made some birthday cards I'd like to share. They were inspired by ones I saw on Pinterest, but are different in some ways.
Each card is also a great way to use up some of those scrap pieces you have from other cards. Which is what I used for every one of them! It's one way to clean out your scraps box!

This first one is the first one I've made using my bicycle stamps. I believe I got them at Michaels for those of you interested in picking up some! I also used my Martha Stewart circle cutter to cut the circle for the bike and the navy circle behind it.

This one, I hate now. I struggled with the twine because it ended up being too long then too short, then it wouldn't stay in place. I used a glue pen to secure the twine to the card. I secured it at the bows and in the middle, and now I wish I had secured it all the way across.

After I made the first one, I wanted to make more of it. but I lost my "d" stamp and birthday was too long in the capital lettters, so I had to change the bottom font (after I'd already put the happy down, of course). Then after I took this photo, I fixed up birthday and filled in all the light parts and made it look better.

With a couple of the left over banner pieces I made this card, which was inspired by a Father's Day card. They had the ties where I have the banners. I actually love this card so much! I might make even more of it!

That's all I've made recently, aside from a few failed Father's Day cards. I only need to make 2 of them by Sunday, and I can't even make one. Hopefully tomorrow goes better!

Have a wonderful day loves!
